![]() This year we marched a "conveyer belt" chart with 2 step intervals between each row (take in mind that the rows will never be perfectly at a 2 step). ![]() ![]() Marching trombone is better with a larger band versus a smaller band, since if there are limited players, it is better to have more on a similar instrument than have a couple people on each.īut it's possible to march trombone in almost all drill, excluding insanely tight drill. It just depends on what players are at your school, who graduates, and what instrument people choose to play. That's kind of off topic, but trombones have the potential to sound great (just like every instrument). They are such nice instruments and basically the same as my concert horn. My school has always marched trombones, and 3 years ago we got a large amount of new instruments, including new silver sousas, baritones, mellophones, and 10 silver trigger trombones. Sure there are some difficulties, but you should just deal with those difficulties and not take the easier way out. I don't believe that trombones are a bad instrument to march. The cons outweigh the pros in our band this year. Never thought of that, non-brassists, did ya?). And the sound you can get out of a trombone is beautiful, but our trombone players can't do it they're always playing way too loud and they cannot play legato (because you cannot slur between positions on the trombone. And everyone calls the single stretched baritone a euphonium just because it's bigger, although it is technically the exact same thing as the baritones. I'm pretty sure it's a mixture of baritones, euphoniums, and tenor horns, but we all call them baritones. The only problem is that our school has a baritone line that's all screwed up. We actually had to re-write the drill for the ending of our show because the collapsing blocks we had were absolutely impossible with trombones in third positition, or even with their slides all the way in. My director has been so excited for months that, "Next year we're gonna have atrombone line!" and my first respose was, "We're not going to let them march trombones, right? Please, no!" But now they are. I'm a trumpet player, and it hurts me to see our brass line fail because of trombones. Haha I'm in band with vvbrandon up there and I feel the exact same way.
